Why Use Textbooks?

Textbooks are an important part of your research for assessments. Use a textbook for an overview of the subject, to clarify concepts, and to familiarise yourself with the important contributors to the field.  Books may also have a reference list at the end of the chapters.  These reference lists can be a good starting point for finding other relevant resources.

Textbooks are recommended for this assignment.  Here's where to find them:

  • Use Multisearch to find books and ebooks on the essay topics.  Learn how to do this here.
  • To search ebooks only, use the database called Ebook Central
  • Find books in Sage Research Methods database

Referencing

The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association Style, 6th Edition (APA 6th) is widely used in the social sciences and other fields to cite and format academic work.

Based on the APA 6 Publication Manual, this library guide provides you with examples of in-text and reference list citations for some of the most common sources of information you might use in assessment tasks. If you are using citation tools or referencing software, these examples will also help you format these references correctly.
