SIBT: Reference with Harvard

Secondary referencing is also called 'citing a source within a source'.

If you would like to refer to some information you are reading about in a secondary source, use the following example to guide your referencing.

Example:
There is a quote by Briody 2005, p.35, discussed on page 144 of a book called Contemporary Police Practice by Jacqueline Drew and Tim Prenzler. I don't have the original work by Briody but am reading about it in the Drew & Prenzler book. I would like to include the quote in my assignment and this is how to reference it:

In-text:
'The first completed case in Australia involving DNA evidence occurred in the Australian Capital Territory in 1989' (Briody, cited in Drew & Prenzler 2015, p. 144)
OR 
Briody stated that 'The first completed case in Australia involving DNA evidence occurred in the Australian Capital Territory in 1989' (Drew & Prenzler 2015, p. 144)
