Formatting Headings

Check with teachers, unit outlines and presentation guidelines before using headings in your assignments.   

Heading Level

Format

1st

Centered, Bold, Title Case Heading

Text begins as a new paragraph.

2nd

Aligned Left, Bold, Title Case Heading
              Text begins as a new paragraph.

3rd

Aligned Left, Bold Italic, Title Case Heading
             Text begins as a new paragraph.

4th

              Indented, Bold, Title Case Heading, Ending With a Period. Text begins on the same line and continues as a regular paragraph. 

5th

             Indented, Bold Italic, Title Case Heading, Ending With a Period. Text begins on the same line and continues as a regular paragraph. 

Note.
In title case, most words are capitalized.

Page Order

Arrange the pages of your assessments in the following order. Start each section on a new page.

  1. Title page (if required)
  2. Abstract (if required)
  3. Text (the body of your work)
  4. References
  5. Footnotes
  6. Tables
  7. Figures
  8. Appendices

Note. Embed tables and figures within the text immediately after the first mention, or place each table and then each figure on separate pages after the reference list in the order mentioned above.
