ACAP Library Pathfinder: Systematic Searching for a Review

This guide provides a methodology for planning and creating a multi-database search strategy for students who are writing a review.

Information Sources

Where to search for information for your literature review will be determined partly by your understanding of your topic (the key concepts involved) and the search terms you choose to use (search criteria). These will assist you in identifying the most useful databases to locate peer-reviewed and/or research journal articles and book chapters.

You may also consider whether to rely solely on research and peer-reviewed articles as found in journal databases or if you would like to extend your search to include sources such as grey literature and search tools such as Google Scholar.

Grey literature such as government, technical and research reports, codes of ethics, policies, discussion papers, and media releases may be appropriate for providing evidence for your research.

Search engines such as Google Scholar are very helpful for finding related resources to boost your literature review.
