Before finishing a document, you should Unlink Citations by:

1. In the Zotero Tab, click the option Unlink Citations
2. A pop-up window will open, choose Yes

This will

• Remove all hyperlinks from the document.
• Convert the entire document to plain text.
• No longer automatically update your bibliography to include new references, so make sure you're totally happy with your references before undertaking this step.

When should I convert to plain text?

Before you submit it to a journal or to your supervisor.  That way, your new copy of your Word document will retain all the citations and the bibliography, but will no longer be connected to your Zotero library or have hyperlinks embedded within it.
